Draft — pending legal review
This is an honest first draft describing how Hushwall is built. It has not yet been reviewed by counsel and is not the final, binding policy. Treat the engineering commitments below as our intent.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
The short version
Hushwall is designed so that we cannot see your activity. The app processes your data on your device. Our servers hold no user traffic, balances or messages, and we collect no name, phone number, email or account. To know how many people use Hushwall, the app counts unique installs and feature usage anonymously — a one-way hashed device id and numeric counters that can’t be traced to you, and never your identity, messages, traffic or balances. Nearby chat is end-to-end encrypted and never passes through us.
On-device processing
Usage accounting (your data shown in ₦), the privacy firewall and tracker blocker, the USSD shortcuts, focus limits and offline chat all run locally on your phone. This information is never transmitted to Hushwall. The app does not route your internet traffic through any Hushwall server or VPN.
What we do not collect
- No name, phone number, email or account — Hushwall has no login.
- No browsing history, app usage logs or location data.
- No message content, contacts or chat metadata.
- No mobile balance, recharge history or financial details.
- No advertising identifiers, and we do not read or store your IP address for analytics.
Anonymous usage measurement
To understand how many people use Hushwall and which features matter, the app sends two kinds of anonymous signals to our own servers — never to any third-party tracker or ad network:
- Once a day, a one-way hashed device id (derived from your device, salted and irreversibly hashed) plus the app version, so we can count unique installs and active devices. It is anonymous, cannot be traced back to you, and is never sold.
- Anonymous numeric counters of feature usage (for example, “feature opened” counts). The schema accepts numbers only — it cannot carry your identity, messages or free-text.
Neither signal includes your name, phone number, email, IP address, messages, traffic, balances or location, and we never sell any of it.
Network connections the app makes
Hushwall reaches the network only for small, non-identifying fetches: cryptographically signed configuration and bundle/USSD reference data, and the tracker blocklist used by the firewall. These requests carry no account or personal data. The app can run fully offline; these refreshes simply keep your reference data and blocklist current.
End-to-end encrypted chat
Nearby chat travels directly between devices over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and is end-to-end encrypted in transit; messages are stored encrypted at rest on your device. Hushwall servers never see, relay or store your messages.
Honest limitation: nearby peers are not yet identity-verified. Encryption protects a conversation once a connection is made, but it does not by itself prove who is on the other end. Until in-app identity verification ships, treat a newly added nearby contact as unverified and confirm them through a channel you trust.
Permissions
Hushwall requests only the device permissions its features need — for example, network access for the firewall and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi for nearby chat. Permissions are used solely on-device to deliver the feature you enabled; they are not used to build a profile of you.
Your rights (NDPA & GDPR posture)
Because Hushwall holds no personal data about you on our servers, there is generally nothing for us to access, export, correct or delete on your behalf — your data lives on your device and is under your control. You can clear it at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling. We aim to align with Nigeria’s Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the EU GDPR principles of data minimisation, purpose limitation and privacy by design. This section will be finalised with counsel.
Children
Hushwall is not directed at children. Because we collect no personal data, we do not knowingly process children’s personal information.
Changes & contact
We will post any material changes to this policy here and update the date above. Questions about privacy can be directed to the Hushwall team via the contact channel published with the release.
