Hushwall is built so that we can’t see your activity, not just so we promise not to. Processing happens on your device. The server holds no user traffic, no balances and no messages — there is nothing to leak, subpoena or sell.
It’s open-core with a verifiable build, and every actionable payload the app accepts is signed with ed25519 and checked against a public key shipped inside the app.

Installing Hushwall (and getting past Play Protect)
Hushwall is off-Play, so you install the app yourself. Because it’s a new app with powerful on-device privacy features, Android — and Google Play Protect — may warn you the first time. That’s expected for a sideloaded app, not a sign that anything is wrong. Here’s how to install it safely.

Download the APK
Tap Download APK on the home page, or open hushwall.app/api/download on your phone, and let the file finish downloading.

Allow your browser to install it
Open the downloaded file. If Android says installs from this source aren’t allowed, tap Settings → turn on Allow from this source for the app you downloaded with (Chrome, Files, etc.), then go back and tap Install.

If Play Protect says “App blocked”
Google Play Protect can block brand-new sideloaded apps. If you see “App blocked to protect your device”:
- Tap More details → Install anyway if that option appears, or
- Open Play Store → your profile → Play Protect → ⚙ Settings, turn off “Scan apps with Play Protect”, install Hushwall, then turn it back on.
Play Protect flags Hushwall because its signing key is new and it asks for powerful privacy permissions (the firewall, tracker scanning) — not because it’s harmful. On a computer, adb install hushwall.apk skips these prompts entirely.

Verify it's genuine (optional)
Every release is cryptographically signed. To be certain your download is the real, untampered build, match its signing certificate against this fingerprint:

Questions, answered
Is it on the Play Store?
No. Hushwall ships off-Play — you install it by sideloading the APK from this site or by adding it on F-Droid. Going off-Play is what lets us keep the privacy firewall and offline chat free of Play-policy restrictions, and it means no Google account is required.
Does it use my data?
Hushwall is built to save data, not spend it. The app works offline; it only reaches the network to fetch small, signed config updates and the tracker blocklist — and you can run it fully offline. It never streams your activity to us.
Is my chat private?
Yes. Nearby chat is end-to-end encrypted and travels directly between devices over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi — it never touches a Hushwall server. Messages are stored encrypted on your device. Note: nearby peers are not yet identity-verified, so treat a new contact as unverified until you confirm them in person.
Do you collect any personal data?
No PII, by design. Processing happens on your phone. Analytics is opt-in and anonymous — only numeric counters, never your identity, your messages, your balance or your IP. The server holds none of your traffic.
How do I know the app is genuine?

Which networks does it support?
MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile — the data bundles, balance checks and USSD shortcuts are tuned for all four Nigerian networks out of the box.
